HOW TO READ THE FARE MATRIX

The Fare Matrix lists each zone on the top row and the first column with
corresponding monetary figures listed across and below.

First, determine your zone of origin. Where are you boarding the bus?
(see the Zone Listing by Town & Area)
Find the zone you are leaving from in the
first column and then find your destination in the first row.

Second, look across to the right from your boarding zone in the first
column to your arrival zone in the first row.

The following are the monetary values listed:
 1. First value is the price of a one way trip using exact fare
 2. The second value is the price for a TEN Trip Ticket Book (10% savings)
 3. The third value is the price for a Monthly FLASH Pass (20% savings)

EXAMPLE ON HOW TO READ THE FARE MATRIX

When purchasing The Monthly FLASH, riders receive a 20% discount on
transportation when compared to paying each time boarding the bus and paying
the one way fare. Actual price based on Zone to Zone travel.

Monthly VALLEY FLASH

10 Trip Ticket Book
Each ticket book includes all the zones MMVTA buses travel through and sold on all vehicles. The 10 Trip Ticket Book is the second figure on the matrix.

When purchasing a 10 Trip Ticket Book, riders will receive a 10% discount on transportation when compared to paying each time boarding the bus and paying the one way fare. Actual price based on Zone to Zone travel.

 ADDITIONAL ZONE FEE & TRANSFERS
 Additional ZONE FEE
The additional ZONE FEE will be charged when a rider has purchased and presents a VALID Monthly FLASH or redeems a valid ticket from a 10 Trip Booklet and wants to travel to additional zone(s) past the zones in which their pass or ticket is validated.

NOTE: Additional Zone Fee will not be valid on tickets and passes validated for THE VALLEY ZONE When traveling out of THE VALLEY ZONE, riders must pay the regular zone to zone fee charged.

When boarding the bus, the rider must tell the driver that he/she is traveling to an additional zone(s) and must pay the Zone FEE upon boarding the bus. Each additional zone traveled will cost 50 cents per zone.

For example: Bob has a valid Monthly FLASH between Zone 4 thru Zone 1. However, today Bob needs to travel from Pittsburgh (Zone 1) to Charleroi (Zone 6) instead of Monongahela (Zone 4).

Since Bob is traveling an additional two (2) zones he will have to pay a $1 ZONE FEE when boarding the bus in Pittsburgh.

Transfers
Transfers are only available when a passenger is changing routes to complete a trip. Transfers will not be issued for the same route.

When boarding the bus, riders are asked to tell the driver that they are changing routes to complete their trip. The passenger will pay the full fare to travel to their final destination and the driver will issue the rider a transfer.

For example: If you board the Blue Line at the Highland Terrace and want to then board the Green Line to Wal Mart, you pay $2 full fare and ask the driver for a transfer. When you board the Green Line to Wal Mart, hand the driver your transfer slip as your payment.

Another example: If you board the Red Line in N. Charleroi and want to then board the Green Line to Wal Mart, you pay $2 full fare and ask the driver for a transfer. When you board the Green Line to Wal Mart, hand the driver your transfer slip as your payment.
