STUDENT REDUCED FARE

MMVTA offers Reduced Fare to  students. To be eligible for Student Reduced Fare you must complete a Student Reduced Fare Application and receive a Student Reduced Fare Card issued by the MMVTA.

Note: California University Students need not apply. Cal U  (PennWest) Students ride at no cost when presenting a valid student CalCard. Please visit the Cal U page for information.

UPDATE: Starting in 2017,  Student Reduced Fare Cards will be accepted for 2 years. (Example: January 2017-December 2018)  If you have any questions or concerns, please call the Transit Center at 724.489.0880. 

All students must be enrolled in a full time, 12 credit educational program or full time middle/secondary schooling AND must present valid student enrollment and ID to apply.

All post secondary applicants must present a valid picture ID when enrolling in the program. Valid picture ID includes: Student ID, Driver’s License or State Issued ID card.

The online and PDF application must be accompanied by a copy of official proof of enrollment in an educational program including High School, College, Career/Trade School, or other educational programs deemed acceptable by the MMVTA.

MMVTA will accept one of the following as Valid Student Enrollment:

  • A class schedule valid for the period in which you are applying for student reduced fare indicating 12 or more credits (MMVTA will accept your school’s definition of full time status if not on a credit system and will verify as such).
  • A letter from your school indicating that you are a full time student with date
  • An official report card (high school students only).

When using the MMVTA Student Reduced Fare Card, students will receive exactly half off of all one way exact fare trips with cash and will save half on all multi ride tickets and passes. The MMVTA Student Reduced Fare Card must be presented with the appropriate fare media (cash, pass or ticket) upon boarding the bus or when a fare media purchase is made.

MMVTA drivers and other staff members reserve the right to ask any person with a Student Reduced Fare Card for photo identification for verification.

MMVTA issued Reduced Fare Cards are not valid for UPLIFT Paratransit or on any other transit service, and the Student Reduced Fare Card can be confiscated at any time if the information on the following application has been falsified or if someone other than the applicant is in possession of the card.
